1. Fill CCD dewar. It is not necessary to move the storage dewar from its place
near the pier.
2. Dome should have been left in the 270 ° position, in the west. Rotate it to
the home position in the east to open it.
3. Turn on the three PCs, CCD and telescope, guide camera, warmroom light, the
backend camera and the filling pump using the APC webpage.
4. Monitor temperature in the CIA window using the get temp
button. Make sure
the filling tubes have been removed from the CCD dewar before starting flats. Narrowband
filter flats can be taken as early as half an hour before sunset. Broadband filter flats
should be taken 5 - 10 minutes after sunset.
Index the filter wheel before moving it.
Remember that changing filters in ACE will not update the filter position in CIA.
5. Top off dewar after flats and disconnect the filling tube. Turn the pump and
the backend light off. Make sure nothing will block the telescope slewing motions.
6. Start a Bias 25 (superbias).
7. Index if necessary.
8. Focus.
9. Locate guide star by moving the video guider around the edge of the field of
view. Keep the mirror slide out. Moving the guide camera does not move the telescope. Keep
the intensifier at a moderate level until you find your guide star.
10. Take images.
11. When observing, turn autodome on. Monitor the temperature: if it rises above
-89 ° top off the dewar.
12. When slewing, make sure the go to button comes back at the end of the slew.
If it doesn't, hit cancel move and go to again and it should
find itself.
13. When finished observing, turn autodome off and move the dome home.
14. Slew telescope to the custom park position, 0 0 0 HA and -45 0 0 Dec. or use
telescope > mirror cover park.
15. Print out nightly log.
16. Write data to CD.
17. If you are observing the following night, top off again before you go to
bed. Turn #4 guide camera off at the end of the night
18. If you are leaving, cover the far end of the tube with the orange tarp and
turn everything off except the PCs, #1, 2 and 8.
19. If leaving, turn the propane heaters all the way down and take the trash
with you. Turn off and log the water usage. Make a log entry for your run in the logbook
on the kitchen table.
20. Lock up.
