"Majeed Hayat Elected a Fellow of OSA", Dr. Majeed Hayat, General Chair of OSE, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Director of CHTM, has been elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA).
OSA recognized Dr. Hayat "for pioneering the dead-space formulation of impact ionization and noise in avalanche photodiodes and developing non-uniformity correction algorithms for infrared sensors."
The OSA Fellow is awarded to OSA Members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics. This honor is reserved to no more than 10% of the total membership.

Professor Marek Osinski has been appointed for a 3-year term as on 
Associate Editor of IEEE Photonics Journal, a new online-only journal 
that offers an open-access option and fast processing times. The 
Journal is published by the IEEE Photonics Society, formerly known as 
the Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (LEOS). Further description of

Prof. Luke Lester named the SPIE 2012 Harold E. Edgerton award winner! Congrats to the department Chair Prof. Luke Lester on winning the 2012 Harold E. Edgerton award. This Award is presented annually by SPIE for outstanding contributions to optical or photonic techniques in the application and understanding of high speed physical phenomena.

Prof. Majeed Hayat named SPIE Fellow Professor Majeed Hayat was elected a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) on Dec. 15, 2012. This honor was given to Dr. Hayat for his "pioneering work in modeling and understanding impact ionization and noise in avalanche-photodiode devices well as seminal contributions to image processing for reducing noise in infrared focal-plane arrays.” Dr. Hayat received his recognition and plaque at the Photonics West Fellows Luncheon (Monday 23 January 2012 in San Francisco, CA).[more]

Sanjay Krishna is chosen as the School of Engineering's next UNM Regents' Lecturer (2009) - more

Steve Brueck is the plenary speaker at the European Optical Society 3rd Topical Meeting on Optical Microsystems (OµS '09) held in Capri, Italy on September 27-30, 2009. Professor Brueck will be speaking on "Imaging Interferometric Microscopy - Resolution to the Linear Systems Limits". More details on the meeting can be found at the conference website here.
